Ostrich Lady

This woman's face attracted me because with her long neck and her straight mouth, she reminds me of an ostrich. I had such a good time with the colors of her face reflected from her dress and background.

El Cubano

I saw several men and women on the streets of Havana with huge cigars so that turists would take their picture. I don't think they really smoke them.

Lady with Flamingos

She wasn't happy with her portrait until I added the flamingos.

El Indio

This portrait was inspired by a photograph taken by my husband of a little boy in Ecuador. It is one of my favorites because of the many colors I used.

The Pirate

This pirate (note earring) was fun and easy to paint. I enjoy the colors of his face. I think that my best paintings just seem to "happen" as this one did.

Pensativa

This lady is also an invention of mine. To me she looks thoughtful or pensive. She has a lot to think about as we all do.

Tristeza

This portrait is of no one in particular. When I asked fellow artists what emotion they felt when they saw her, they all said, "sadness". That is the feeling I was trying to convey. This is painted with Payne's Gray and a little color, not much. I would like to try another that expresses, "happiness".

Randy

This was one of my first portraits. Randy is my son and this looks just like him. People on the streets recognize him because they have seen his portrait. He has become famous.

Zoe with Beads

Zoe was about three and she loved to dress up.

Molly with Beads

Shih-Tzus love to be admired. Molly knows that she is beautiful.

Summer Shower

Zoe and Liam were rinsing off after a swim. Note the colors on Liam's neck.

Fr. Maloney

Father's U shaped mouth and kind expression were irresistible to me This is a painting of a good man.

Ditto, the Cat

This is my grandchildren's cat. I painted branches and sticks in front of him because he's a bit wild. Cats have interesting eyes, don't you think?

Zoe with flowers

This is one of my favorite paintings of my granddaughter. I think that the soft yellow that I used set the mood that I wanted.....sweetness and light.

Dos Gardenias

I talked with this woman in a plaza in Havana, Cuba. After a while, she asked if I wanted to hear her sing. I said, 'yes' and she sang, "Dos Gardenias Para Ti". I think it must be a well known Cuban song but I had never heard it.

Charlie

I treasure this portrait of my husband, Charlie. As you can see, he was in a pensive mood.

Glory

Glory is from Kenya. I think you'll agree that she's a beautiful young woman.

Three Republicans

The man on the right was a great-great grandfather of mine. The writing on the back of the photograph said emphatically that they were all three Republicans.

Woodie

I enjoyed experimenting with colors on him.
