I talked with this woman in a plaza in Havana, Cuba. After a while, she asked if I wanted to hear her sing. I said, 'yes' and she sang, "Dos Gardenias Para Ti". I think it must be a well known Cuban song but I had never heard it.
For years, my creative Muse was satisfied by teaching Spanish in high school. Some may think that this must have been a hum-drum existence. For me it was not. I enjoyed it tremendously because I was frequently inspired by some wild idea of methodology that occurred to me while teaching. With eager anticipation and excitement, I would try it out. Teaching is creation.
Upon retirement, I spent many years writing and felt the same enthusiasm, pleasure and sense of accomplishment that teaching had given me.
Although I am not finished writing or teaching (senior Spanish classes), I've now discovered that painting also fulfills my need to be creative. I find such delight in color and, since my life has always revolved around people, it is inevitable that I must paint portraits.
I would love to read your comments about my paintings.
